Project CaSCo – Carbon Smart COmmunities – was supported by INTERREG Alpine Space Programme, financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
Increasingly complex material flows in the timber industry spanning ever greater distances considerably contribute to climate change. Herein lies a great but unexploited potential for the reduction of CO2 emissions. The CaSCo project highlighted this potential by showing how sustainable timber supply chains can contribute to emissions reductions in the Alpine Space. CasCo raises awareness for low carbon timber amongst public authorities, architects and SMEs and makes the case for the role of low carbon timber in Green Public Procurement.
The main objectives of project CaSCo are:
- The development and implementation of transnational low carbon policy instruments for the procurement of significantly low carbon timber products
- Closing loops of regional added value and capitalizing of low carbon timber products by fostering their utilisation in politics, public bodies and key actors as e.g. architects.
Our role
Environment Park acted as business accelerator in sustainable building sector, promoting innovation, capacity building and dialogue on sustainable timber use between private organizations and the regional and national decision makers.
